Learn a Flexible Raqs Sharqi Entrance – A Somatic, Musical Exploration
Al Qamar is a new Raqs Sharqi Entrance composition for bellydancers by Egyptian composer, Mr Khaled Hassan produced for Keti in 2019.
It represents the phases of the moon ‘Al Qamar’ and the rhythms and melodies shift and change accordingly. The full moon is open and expansive, eliciting a joyful mood with full circular patterns created with nimble, kinetic travelling steps. The waning crescent moon is portrayed through ‘lulling’ pendulum sounds which resonate with crescent shapes and waves. Lastly, the dark moon is sombre with a pensive, internal feel, as the musicians play the spacious 10/8 Samaii rhythm.
Keti shows you the inner workings of the musical composition and composer’s ideas behind the theme, and also how to create appropriate dance movement choices to enhance your own story. Discover flowing combinations and stepping patterns to various rhythms, that are commonly found in classical Raqs Sharqi entrance pieces.
You will receive a workbook, for your own choreographic template and process, the ‘Al Qamar’ music MP3 and the class videos.
Videos are live from Sep 1st 2019.
