12 Guiding Principles of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology
Investing in Human Potential from the Beginning of Life
Our core understandings of babies and early human experience are in the midst of a fundamental paradigm shift. Understanding our earliest experiences from the baby’s point of view and how these experiences set in motion life patterns has been the intense study of the field of prenatal and perinatal psychology (PPN) for over forty years. What we learn from babies in PPN-oriented clinical work with people of all ages leads us beyond our modern era’s biology-based lens into vastly expanded consciousness-based multidimensional understandings. In our one-hour class together, we explore the implications of these PPN findings for research, theory, guiding principles, professional and parenting practices, as well as for community decision making and programs. How do we best support human potential and optimal relationships and what should receive priority attention?
This talk with Wendy Anne McCarty is a brilliant overview of the 12 Guiding Principles of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology. It is a wonderful introduction to Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology, as well as a wonderful way for educators and others who work with birthing families to use these ideas to talk to others about PPN. Wendy will introduce you to resources in multiple languages and gives you the powerpoint she used for her presentation to help you in your own presentations, if you’d like to help spread the word.
It’s a small investment for a great way to help change the world of birthing families and subsequently the world.
